Modern Cannondale serial number breakdown? From what i gather the frame size is coded into the serial number and want to know what size frame I actually have. When I peeled all the stickers off of it when it was new I took off the frame size sticker which said J for jumbo and there was another sticker under it that either said L or XL, forget.

If you have a serial number, two lines, one above the other, with
spaces between the left and right sides, and it has letters and
numbers. I was told I should not post the actual serial number
online.. I'm not sure why. But, can anyone tell me how to read it
to know what is the frame size and year?
I will put 'L' for a letter character and '#' for a number character:
LL __________ #####
LL### _______ 3R6W53
I left the last part intact. I know from the marking on the frame that
it is a Cannondale III R. So, I'm guess that the 3R stands for that.
It is a ladies' bike (or so the seller told me) and I usually ride
around a 52 to 54 cm bike frame. So I'm guess the W is for Women's and
53 might be the frame size??? But one of the other numbers on the bike
included a 52. So, I'm not sure.
Anyway, can anyone tell me how to read this? I would like to know
specifically what my frame size is and what year my bike is. Oh yeah,
and for purposes of recording ownership, what portion of those numbers
constitute the serial number that I should put with my insurance
records?
Thanks,
Dawn

As it is a hybrid bike, in general, it is loaded with features apart from being able to roll on multiple terrains. And of course, we are talking about Cannondale, which just raises the bar to a whole new level. The brand is known for its high quality and durable bikes meant for different riders.

    Cannondale Frame Serial Numbers Explained

Let's assess some of their primary features and see how things come out.

    Frame and Structure

Cannondale is the master of aluminum alloy, and they have years of experience in making these frames. The company uses C2 and C3 aluminum alloys in the construction of these frames. C2 aluminum is a bit lighter than C3, while C3 is almost full aluminum; therefore, it is a bit more rigid.

The Cannondale Quick, Althea, and Treadwell series feature C3 aluminum while the Cannondale Bad Boy series comes with a C2 aluminum frame.

All the series except Cannondale Althea have the traditional metal frame of a hybrid bike. However, the Althea comes with a step-through design that is with Ride-Easy geometry.

    Gearing System

Most hybrid bikes in the Cannondale Quick, Althea, Bad Boy and Treadwell series come with drivetrains featuring double chainrings on the front. You will get a range of different low gears for off-road travel and high gears for road speed.

Treadwell and Althea focus more on off-road riding with Treadwell being more tilted towards non-flat terrains. The Quick and Bad Boy series come with a balanced set of gears allowing you to handle different terrains and go with speed on flat ones.

    Wheel and Tires

All Cannondale hybrid bikes in the Quick series come with 700x40c wheels. You'll find these tires on a road bike, so with the Quick series, you will get speed.

Cannondale Althea also features the same tires, so these bikes are built for speed too.

Contrary to that, the Treadwell and the Bad Boy series features 650bx35c tires. These tires are designed to take on off-road terrains better. They are also way better as compared to any other tire when we talk about handling.

    Fork and Handlebar

In the Quick series, Cannondale has used SR Suntour 50mm NEX 1.125-inch steerer fork with Cannondale 3 Intellimount alloy. It has a 31.8mm clamp that also comes with a lockout.

The Althea series features SR Suntour 50mm NCX with tapered steering. The fork can range from 1.5-inch to 1.125 inches, which is also built for speed.

Now let's talk about the Treadwell series.

It comes with SmartFoam C3 fork with alloy blades featuring a 1.125-inch steerer. There is a flat-mount disc and an OutFront offset to handle bumpy surfaces comfortably.

Lastly, the Bad Boy series have the Lefty Rigid OPI fork made of 606-alloy that can handle speed and steering very easily.

Bad Boy and Treadwell have nice and comfortable handlebars that offer better steering. Whereas Quick and Althea are nice and comfortable when it comes to speed.

    Suspension and Comfort

All four of these series come with great suspension, and they can handle different terrains very well. These suspensions are designed to keep your ride comfortable no matter what the road conditions are.

The suspension systems on the Quick and Althea series are better suited for flat roads. They can also absorb bumps. However, the suspension systems on Bad Boy and Treadwell are splendid when you need to take care of your bumpy rides.
